Quick update

Just a quick post today, not much has been happening at Waterford Estate this week. The painter is away until next week so there hasn't been any dramatic progress on the cottage.

The electrician has connected up the power to the septic tank. We can now fill in the trench.

The builder has started putting in the "floor" of the overhead cupboards.

Planting trees

Chris and I had a big day out at Waterford Estate yesterday. Chris had ordered 40 betula maximowicziana (Monarch birch) trees from Appleton's Nursery which arrived last week. A you can see had a very productive day.

Believe it or not, there's 40 trees in there

Here are some pictures of the mature trees to give you some idea of what the trees will look like in a few years time courtesy of the world wide web:

We also shifted the horses to a fresh paddock and harrowed where they'd just come out of. They showed their appreciation by galloping around the new paddock like loonies doing very impressive sliding stops. So much for new grass!

Doors

The builders have been busy inside the Cottage this week. Some of the doors are in, and the skirtings and architraves are going up nicely.

Stormwater complete

The stormwater trenches and dripper lines were completed today. The trenches have been backfilled and are ready to plant grass seed on them when the weather improves.

Septic tank and drainage

It was a big day out at the block today. The drain layers created more earthworks havoc installing the sewage and stormwater drainage pipes and digging yet another hole for the septic tank. Chris was out there all day helping digging trenches and also planting a hedge behind the cottage.

That diggers a little close to the new cottage! I can't watch!

another digger, another whacking great hole!

slight mistake with the pipe work, note the level of the ground and note the depth of the grease trap. Plumbers mistake putting the pipes in the concrete too low, drain layer not happy, and neither is having to pay for risers at $200 each!
