Cottage update

Just a quick update on what's been happening at Waterford Estate. The plumbers and electricians have been busy during the week.

The plumbing has been installed and we now have running water. I was very excited and turned on all the taps, turned on the shower and flushed the toilet - just because I could! There isn't any hot water yet as the electrician's haven't quite finished with connecting up the power. The light switches, power plugs and light fittings have all been installed though, and its looking really awesome. The gas fitters have been in to connect the gas hobs, califont and the heater.

Gas heater in lounge

Gas hobs in kitchen

Toilet & vanity (note bow handles on vanity - these are the wrong handles!)
There was a bit of a hiccup with the vanity, it was installed with the wrong handles. We ordered flat bar handles to match all the other flat bar handles in the bathroom on the shower, cupboard doors and the laundry tub. Apparently the correct handles are the same spacing so they will come back out and replace the correct handles when they arrive. Someone at the plumbing outfit must have been sleeping the day we ordered our stuff, as the shower handle was the wrong one too!

Laundry tub

Laundry cupboard

Flue for the gas heater

Dishwasher (no its not blue, it is just the plastic protective film on it)

Outside lantern

Kitchen with lights installed

Halogen work lights in kitchen

Wardrobe handles

Halogen work lights about vanity

Heat lamp and extractor fan in bathroom

Heated towel rail in bathroom with (correct) shower installed

Handles on laundry

Lights in lounge

Gas califont for hot water

Gas bottles and califont

Chained in place so they don't fall over

The electricians are back next week to finish off, then the painters come back to touch up all the scuff marks that have appeared during the week. Code of compliance is booked for Wednesday, followed by our carpet and vinyl on Saturday. The big move in is the Thursday after that, so its going to be an exciting next couple of weeks.

Kitchen

Today was a super exciting day - our kitchen is installed! Chris shot out after work as and took some photos. By all accounts it looks fabulous and will look even better when the appliances go in over the next couple of days.

The Kitchen
Bench, dishwasher, sink, hobs and tower for microwave and oven
Benchtop
Sink and dishwasher space
Fridge space and pantry
Appliances ready to go in
Lights ready to be installed

As well as the kitchen, the painters finished off painting the outside, as well as installing the finials. It is almost complete now and is looking fantastic.

It should be another big couple of days coming up. The plumber/gas-fitters are onsite tomorrow to install the bathroom vanity and toilet and the gas appliances. The electrician should be there to install the kitchen appliances, light switches and exterior lights and other electrical bits and bobs so watch this space!

Packing

Given the impending move Chris has decided to get organised. He spent the weekend ferrying stuff out to the shed at Waterford Estate in the back of the trusty Surf.

Amazing how much junk you can cram in here

Don't leave me behind!

Painting

It's been a week since I last blogged, mainly due to the fact that there's not been much happening.

This week the painters have been painting the interior. They sprayed the gibsealer on the walls to get a nice even coverage. They also sprayed the skirting with the first coat of colour. Its a bit hard to see in some of the pictures as they were taken yesterday after work.

The new shower door also arrived, as the incorrect one had been installed.

In other news, our place in Hamilton has gone unconditional and settlement is the 27th August. It is such a relief to sell in such a tough market. The first lady to view fell in love with it and bought it, however the sale all hinged on her selling her place. Well the gods must have been smiling as she sold it at auction. We are hoping that the cottage will be ready in time to move in. Chris has been busily ferrying stuff from Hamilton out to the shed. Lucky we built a big shed!

Wet weekend

The weather this weekend was pretty rainy so not many photos. Chris spent most of the weekend sorting the shed plumbing out and adjusting the pressure switch on the bore pump. I think he's got it sorted for now. He also started ferrying stuff from our house out to the block to store in the shed, so that when we move out there in 27 days (not that I'm counting or anything) its not such a big job.

I took some photos last week of the Cottage so far. The painters are due to start painting tomorrow, and they plan to be finished by the end of the week.

Mack's transformation from hairy feral bush-dweller to real horse began this weekend. He was introduced to wearing a cover for the first time. He was really good about having it put on and off, but he certainly expressed his displeasure with the whole idea once he was free to roam the paddock. However, his displeasure was short-lived once the food bucket and rain arrived.

Food distraction
Maybe this cover thing isn't so bad after all!

Chris gave me a hand with Mack today. We took his cover on and off a few times which he handled like a pro. It was all a bit scary as he was in the "stables" while it was raining which was also a first for  him. But in true Irish style he was obviously not too concerned as five minutes later he'd helped himself into the shed and had a wander around, easy as pie. He even managed to find the hay pile and had a compulsory sample. What a character!

One of these days I will make Mack his own blog, but that might be once I'm done with study. I seem to have a hard enough time keeping this one updated lately.
